Presidents Welcome

A Welcome from The President

It gives me great pleasure as President of Athy Rugby club to welcome all our players, members and supporters for the 2014/2015 season. I would also like to extend a warm welcome to all visiting teams and their supporters also.

It is an honour for me to be elected as President for the coming season, a huge responsibility has been entrusted on me but I endeavour to give it my all and undertake the role with both pride and passion. I would like to acknowledge our outgoing president, Michael Barry and thank him for his hard work and dedication over the past year.

Athy RFC is a vibrant, community-based rugby club, with excellent facilities. Our pitches are some of the best in Leinster.  Athy RFC is a club that is run on a voluntary basis, without the support of these volunteers and the community at large we would not be in existence.

I would like to offer a special word of thanks to our sponsors who are the lifeblood of this club; your continued support is greatly appreciated. We have an exciting program of fundraising events planned for this season to help maintain the running of the club.

Our Mini’s and Youths sections continue to thrive year on year and I am delighted to say we are now catering for over 500 minis’ and youths players each week. 2014 also sees the introduction of an underage girls structure to the club.

To our Club Captain Stuart Holland, Head Coach Joey Carbury, their squad of players and backroom staff, I extend my best wishes for the forthcoming season and they continue their campaign in Leinster League Division 2B.

The best of luck to our Ladies Coach Laura O’Callaghan Conlon, captain Sonia Keegan and her squad of players as they continue into their 3rd year. Athy have been very lucky to have successfully established a ladies team and I would like to thank all those who worked hard to make this possible, the ladies have been a huge boost to the club.

To our Executive Committee, who give freely of their time, thank you all and please continue with your good work. I urge all our members to remember that this is your club; you get out of it what you put in.

I look forward to seeing you throughout the season supporting our teams from senior to under age level.
