Athy RFC was the venue once again for the 6th Annual Rugby Camp-Out, which saw 65 teams of both Boys and Girls from all 4 provinces participating in this unique event. Proceedings commenced with blitzes at U10, U11 and U12 grades with neutral referees for all matches and the standard of rugby displayed at all grades shows that the future of Irish Rugby is very bright.
After the rugby, the teams were treated to a hot meal before an evening of team-building activities which included an obstacle course, tug-o-war and team sack races. The passing showers certainly couldn't dampen the spirits of the kids who put on a brilliant display of dancing during the outdoor disco also. The attendees then settled in to their camp-sites for the night before departing back to their home clubs after a hot breakfast on Sunday morning.
The feedback for this unique event has again been amazing and lots of photos are being uploaded to the Athy Rugby Camp-Out Facebook page. This event was again made possible by an army of almost 150 volunteers from all sections of the Athy RFC club and the work has already begun on the 2019 event.

The Bank of Ireland Leinster Rugby Camps provides boys and girls – aged 6-12 years – with a fun-filled week of rugby during the summer holidays. The camps are focused around maximising enjoyment and learning to play the Leinster Way. For more information check out: Leinster Rugby Summer Camps

The Bank of Ireland Leinster School of Excellence is back again for the 21st time. It is one of the most successful rugby camps in Ireland which aims to provide players from 12-17 years old (boys & girls) with a comprehensive rugby package which allows them to experience a week in the life of a professional rugby player. Players attending can learn to play the Leinster way as they will gain greater understanding of the game and learn about values such as team work, commitment, integrity and communication. The camp is hosted in The Kings Hospital School, Palmerstown, which has been its home since its conception. For more information, check out: Leinster Rugby School of Excellence

Towns Cup 2nd Round
Athy 1st XV 7 - Gorey 29
Athy 1st XV hosted Gorey today in the 2nd round of the Bank of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup. Athy RFC hosted a function for former club players and members in the recently refurbished upstairs of the club house before the game. The general feeling amongst the crowd was of optimism, after all “anything can happen on Cup day”.  Clear skies and a strong Icey wind blew from the club house end towards the bottom corner of the main pitch in The Showgrounds. Athy started with a mix of youth and experience with the strong wind at their back and receiving the kick off. An early exchange of line outs was won by Gorey from which they launched an early attack up the centre of the pitch with a strong run from their number 13.
